THREE YEAR OLDS
  • We have been working to create some masterpieces using our feet and hands.
  • Some three year olds prepared pink backgrounds with sponge spang rollers. We used tempera and acryllic paints.
  • We mixed bright colors and the children ”dipped” their feet.
  • They thought this was great fun.
  • Some children “printed” their footprints on more absorbent paper.
  • After “printing” the children had to wash their feet. Acryllics are hard to get off!!
  • First the body of the pigeon was created with footprints. wings and tail feathers were then created with hands.
  • We added beaks and eyes. These are their works of art.
  • The children hadn’t seen Picasso’s doves but the results are surprisingly similar!!!

Working with 4 year olds.
The children, like Picasso, were inspired by African masks. In class, they were able to touch real African mask from Gabon.
They had fun making masks from cardboard and they wore their masks for Carnival
The children of four years old wanted to create 4 trees, one typical of each season which they put on the wall.
  • They started by looking at a tree in autumn.
  • First they drew a project then they made it from paper, card, wire, wallpaper and pieces of colored wool. They made the leaves from flat pieces of copper on which they drew the veins. Dry branches were made of wire covered in wool. They made a face for the tree.
  • Then they made winter.
  • They drew it, then they made it from paper, crumpled paper, string and cotton wool.
  • One of them dressed up in the costume of winter.
  • They have begun now to work on “spring”.

Working with 5 year olds
  • We prepared to draw a funny or frightening face, but one which ,like many by Picasso, was not round: ours were triangular, square, rectangular
  • Then we mimed faces like the ones we had painted.
  • For Carnival we made 3-D masks using cardboard bases and tissue paper.
  • We painted them in acrylics.

Working with Primary school
In this period of the school year, students have been studying Picasso. While studying Picasso the children discovered an incredible artist who created in many different styles. They really liked his "Blue" and "Rose Periods" That's why they made two pictures, one in warm colors and one in cool colors. They discovered that Picasso had done a lot of pictures with faces, so they studied the human face and its proportions, from the side and from the front, and then colored their works with chalks. They cut out the profile and pasted it on the face, seen from the front. In pairs, they made some portraits by tearing up little pieces of paper, recalling Picasso’s collages-
